Case 530ck torque tube leak

Hey everyone first post here, also first tractor. I have a 1966 Case 530CK that I recently purchased. It has the 188 diesel, case o matic I believe, and dual range? I wish I knew more to fully understand what I have. I bought it running and dang near everything working on it. Fixed a few things to get to where im at now.

Anywho, I have an issue I was hoping to get some insight on before I go splitting this thing to go digging to figure out where the leak is. I have Hydro fluid leaking from the torque tube into the crankcase. It took me about 2 drains of engine oil to realize that it was filling up. At first I assumed it was diesel but it didnt smell. Then I noticed one day I was having a hard time getting out of a small rut. I checked the fluid of the torque tube and realized I was very low. Topped it off and sure enough. The crankcase was filling up again. So I've done this exact thing at least 5 times now where I dump the crankcase, fill with fresh oil and add hydro to the torque tube.

I do have the factory manual for it, so I tried looking to see what seals are inbetween the 2, having a hard time finding anything. Thats when I noticed someone has removed the 188 engine pages out of my manual. So that leads me here. Hopefully someone can give me some insight to what can be leaking here. Is it possibly something external? I usually try to get as much info as possible before tackling a job.

Thanks Bobby.

This is what i was thinking, but I couldn't understand how a seal can block oil from both directions until I saw youre post. I didnt know they were double shaft seals like that. Honestly it only makes sense though. Thanks for the reply. Ill try to verify the seal is the correct one before ordering.

It's most likely that the seal is not made anymore, but rather two seals of the same size will replace it, one facing in, one facing out. The new seals are flimsy and it's easy to distort one versus the old which was one piece and made from left over WWII tank metal. If you buy three, you won't need the third. Suggest calling John Saeli Imp 315-585-9826 for help and possible new insight.

Yeah I've been digging around on the internet trying to source one. Tried mcmaster and what not with no luck. Ill give him a shout at one point. Thanks for the info.

Some pictures from last night, no luck finishing still trying to get that lower portion that attaches to the axle back in.

Shouldn't the line up of the bell housing bolts tell you what's needed? Did similar with Case-omatic 730 restore narrow front years ago and can't remember things for sure. Seems like everything had a gasket by the rear of the oil pan bell housing mate up. Used black rtv to help seal and hold in place.

If i take out the 2 small rectangles and also the cork gasket that goes above this piece. My lower 5/8 bolts line up perfectly.

Well against my better judgment, I went ahead and used RTV on this lower part. Let it set up for an hour or so. Torqued everything down and filled it up. So far everything is running well. I ran the tractor for about 2 hours. Drives much better being full of fluid again. Ill keep an eye on the fluid levels for now. And hope for the best.

I think the main problem was the 2 bolts that bolt the oil pan to the rear man seal housing weren't there. They were never installed and the seal housing wasn't even tapped. Not sure if the housing was replaced at some point, I can imagine this being like this from factory. I can only assume this is where all my oil was coming from. Hopefully me doing this doesnt cause any issues. I cant imagine it harming anything.

Im hoping that was the fix. Because there are a few other small leaks im looking to get fixed up next.
