Battery Chargers...

In case you don't remember the "old days" so well, what you bought back then was quality. If you bought any kind of appliance like a refrigerator, stove, or even a batterty charger, they worked and worked well, and for many years.

Today they sell a lot of junk that is marginal at best, and have high failure rates. That is the reason for the "no hassle" return policies.

I'm still using a battery charger that I bought 45 years ago, and it works perfectly. Other items like drills, grinders, and a host of power tools that simply keep on going nearly a lifetime before finally wearing out. I'll take the "good old days" any time when it comes to appliances and tools.
My 'good' charger was passed down from my Dad. Big old wheeled charger with no name and all markings long gone. He got it when he bought a small Mobil station in 1959. As I recall it was pretty new at that time. He sold that lease but kept charger and a few other things when he opened an auto salvage a couple of years later.

It has never had any internal repairs but does need a new gauge and timer. It does 6 and 12. The lack of a timer and my poor memory has costs me a battery or two over the years. Should have bought a timer, cheaper than batteries now!

Yeah well you have your past life and I have mine...........

Yep. Back in the old days, you didn't have to worry about taking things back or getting refunds because what you bought worked and kept working.
That wasn't the case for me. Most of the half-fast stuff only worked half-the time. To move into the more modern era where when you bought something and it worked, was a big deal for me. Iterating what I said, when you walked out the door it was yours and the merchant didn't want to see you back in the store with the item and a gripe.

I have a similar 40/225 from September of '83. I've had to open, clean, and lube the fan before. It's just a small shaded pole motor and has just enough torque to spin a propeller a little, but gets the job done. After 40+ years, it probably deserves a little attention.
