Old Case 530ck; New owner questions..

Good morning,
I'm a new tractor owner and have some questions about an older backhoe I just picked up. My wife and I have 5 acres up in the Lost Sierras and I needed something to help prep the property for building a small house. I've been doing a lot of research on this site, and I just have a few million questions.

I know you can't always trust the decal, but I THINK this is a 60's Diesel 530CK with a 32 backhoe and bucket. The serial number on the side of the cowling is gone so I don't know the specific year.

I ordered a manual on Ebay (surprised there wasn't anything I could download online) and while I wait I want to tear into it and start replacing fluids, filters and sensors/gauges. I starts right up and everything works but there are some leaking rams (the one on the drinkers side front loader is sheared off) and hoses I'll need to replace.
A couple questions:
Where are you guys mounting your battery? I bought a Group 31 and the top terminals are dangerously close to that metal steering shroud. During transport there were definitely sparks!

Where is this throttle spring supposed to mount?

What does the pedal on the left do on the backhoe?

And what is this relay for? Doesn't seem to be hooked up to anything except for a ground strap.

It looks like the PO made some shoddy mods that I'll have to clean up.. but on the whole it seems pretty solid.

I appreciate any help you all may have and am excited to learn more about this tractor.

Thanks!

Hey Nick,
I don't think these have glow plugs..
That cable you see is a ground strap that attaches just above onto the side of the motor.
The starter was just replaced so perhaps it's an old solenoid?

It.looks.like the cable is running to the intake pre heater, my apologies not glow plugs but preheater. So it has a preheater to help get it started.

Looks like someone unhooked it. I have no idea why the tab is on the opposite side.of the relay. Should be a hot wire from battery. Small terminal on relay should be activation wire from switch or preheat button. Is that the intake manifold the cable goes up to?

Oh I see.. yeah, that makes sense.
I guess I'm going to have to dive into the electrical schematics and run power to that relay for the winter months.
Thanks!

Yes sir. The preheater could be shorted out or grounded, maybe that's why it was disconnected. Easy to hook back up and see if its working. good luck. Nick

Yep, that's the preheater relay. Large terminal left I think to hot terminal on starter, large terminal right to manifold preheater, small terminal to pushbutton on dash. 30 seconds or so at a time.
Fuel pump return spring is the one wrapped around the base of the lever plus the one on the accelerator pedal linkage which may be missing.
Here's a link to the Case parts page but they don't list obsolete parts.

Here's the one for a 32 hoe.
