Ford NAA - Vertical Exhaust Installation

That looks rather ugly what's the U conventional muffler clamp for. Yes I know its a conventional muffler clap I don't see it offer any use. That band clap should hold the pipe to the muffler and be a ell of a lot easier to take apart. I also know this is not as easy as it looks : (.
Hey, The band clamp does not hold the pipe in, even tighted down. It bottoms out as you can see and the vertical exhaust moves without the u clamp. I was surprised as well and questioned the design to YD but they said there is no further information on installation so I had no choice.

My guess the muffler is two long both ends need some cut off to bring it to where the clap will hold it. That's why I said its not as easy as it looks.

Who is "YD?" Do you mean "YT," as in this site?

Whoever you mean, remember they handle hundreds of thousands of parts, and it is not humanly possible for the staff to be well versed in every part they sell. Even if they divide and conquer. Sometimes you just gotta buckle down and "figger it out" for yourself.

This is my solution, hope the clamp works well enough. View attachment 112207
If that pipe and muffler are supposed to fit each other they don't. They are a different size. Were they bought to fit each other or just both bought to fit your tractor? That clamp will probably keep it from falling off but it's going to leak. If I was going to keep those parts because I already bought them I'd make a shim to fill the size difference and not have to use the universal muffler clamp. Nice looking tractor BTW.

Hi, thanks for the info. I may have to reach out to YT and have them replace the setup. Lots of time spent already on the project, would like to start it up.

if yer really itching for some tractorin' you could walk into oreillys/autozone and pick yerself up a 1.75" exhaust pipe with how ever bend is yer preference for 8bux or so and clamp it on with a 1.75" band clamp until yer new kit arrives

I'm getting ready to install the kit on my 950 that I got.

Reviving this thread, I’m servicing my 861’s exhaust and would like to relocate the muffler to above the hood / vertical. What I can’t figure out is which vertical kit does this.

Which kit will come directly off the manifold so I can route a muffler vertical above the hood?

This cast iron elbow with bracket folks continue to reference (NAA55258A, picture attached) — does it mount off the 90deg elbow coming off the manifold, or is it designed to work off the outlet for a horizontal muffler?

If it comes off the horizontal muffler outlet, that’s not what I’m trying to do.

Part NAA55258A - where does it attach? Off the manifold or off the horizontal muffler?

I’ve also come across this kit which looks to come directly off the manifold elbow:

Perhaps I could run the straight pipe up or cut it and add a vertical muffler to the top of the stack.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Both those kits are designed with the idea of attaching to the muffler in the stock location. If you want to eliminate/move the muffler to vertical right off the manifold elbow, you'll need the services of a muffler shop to either stretch the pipe to fit the manifold outlet or to make an adapter. The high dollar original equipment style elbow won't be of any use.

im almost wanting to go back to the vertical myself, awhile back i got the horizontal pieces, but I cannot fathom sticking a flloor jack under the gawd damn lower horizontal pipe to get it level enough to clamp down, its been an unmitigated squirrel quest of frustration, much like everything else with this rig thus far.....

Thanks for the replies. I think I’m going to go with the custom route. I found a 2” OD elbow on YT that will fit—upgrading the exhaust size to 2” and performance muffler will give me a bit more horsepower and sound better.
