Case 311 pan drop

I probably will do an overhaul on my 311 this winter. Any tricks or suggestions on dropping that steering gear that is in the way on a wide front. Doing in tractor work, but I don't see anyway the pan comes off without major work.

I believe the best way to do that is to take the front end off. Radiator and all. Get it out of the way. Leave the engine bolted to the rest of the tractor if you want to, but you won't be able to replace the rear seal. That might start leaking after you replace the main bearings and get the crank back in place. Ask me how I know. lol
 
Ha! I have good oil pressure, but is starting to use oil at about a quart to 4hrs of pto speed work. Was thinking of leaving the mains alone.
