On a 1955 300 Farmall, does anyone have any good tricks to easily replace the throttle lever 362065R1??? The throttle rod and such pivots in the bracket the steering shaft goes through. There is a spring on the throttle rod that pushes against the lever. There is a roll pin holding the lever onto the rod. So I'm looking for any tricks to hold that spring in place while the lever is replaced???

Piece of pipe or tube that fits over the rod. Cut a slot in the end to install the roll pin through.

I don't have a 300 so I'm probably way off base here. I assume you can't get to the linkage attached to the lever to hold it. Looking at how it's made can you remove the instrument panel enough to get a block under the linkage or vice grips on it to hold the linkage in place compressed against the dash while you get the pin out?

My first go to would be needle nose vise grips. But I never saw what you are doing.

I wonder if you could use a flathead type valve spring compressor?

Spring is definitely stronger than it looks.

Yes I know that’s why I’m asking if anyone had a trick to replace the lever. I did it about 16 years ago and it was a real nnalert then. I welded it then and replace it. Now I have lost lots of strength and don’t remember how I did it?????

Let me clarify how I see this working. The pipe will be split or open on one side to be placed in position to do the task. More of the diameter of the pipe will be left in place on the end with the grooves cut to allow the space to drive the pin in. The pipe would be long enough so you can use a pry bar against casting the rod comes through from under the hood. Hope that makes sense.
