JD3020 front steering motor leaking

I have a 1965 JD3020 gas with wide front axle. The front steering motor is leaking. I want to remove and rebuild. For removal, the IT manual says to remove center steering arm, left side frame rail, hyd. line connections, etc. Then tilt steering motor and withdraw from left side of tractor. It does not indicate the axle must be removed. Question: Does the axle have to be removed? Rather not unless I have to. Also should the left side of engine be supported before removing the left frame rail? Thanks.

Is oil coming down from around the center steering arm under the steering motor? If so, remove wide front to remove center steering arm to replace lip seal R34748 in the steering arm spindle housing. Support front of tractor with front splitting stand bolted to the engine side rails. Also can support the front with plate bolted to two bolts at front end. Also, oil can leak from two steel oil lines on steering motor. And also from two oil lines above the steering motor. Or from one of four end piston plugs orings R26282 on ends of the steering motor. Wide front axle will have to come out to get steering motor out. Support engine before taking off left engine side rail.

I have my 4010 that also needs to replace the seal under the steering motor, would like to find a design or plan of the original tool that bolted to the narrow front to roll the NF out . I s there another way to hold the narrow front when pulling that off ?

Also there are timing marks once you get the center steering arm off. Rotate the steering wheel to either side completely and make sure the V on the center lines up with the raised casting line on the seal retainer. Helps when inserting the center back into the motor.
