Smart Phone, stuff everyone knows but me.

My friend went to an open meeting at City hall one time regarding what I don't know. One of the responses was. " Don't confuse me with the facts , I have my mind made up." True story.

And this again! Pictures have a thousand uses. Fixed my A/C Friday, fan motor bad, just took a pic of the label, looked it up on Amazon, ordered it. Had it in hand in 14 hours! Fixed in 1. Much easier to read equipment labels, s/n etc on the screen rather than standing on my head, using a mirror, flashlight etc. Google maps with voice navigation through my hearing aids is another often used feature. Effectively it is a repair and parts manual in my pocket and in my shop. Can call 911 by voice if I should fall or otherwise hurt myself in the shop. And the list goes on. Even old guys like me can find good reasons to own one.

The serial number on my tractor was barely readable. I took a picture with a small digital camera and was able to edit the picture on my desktop computer and it became readable.

I dropped a small fragile spring from a vintage clock onto a hard wooden floor once . Typically it rolled underneath a huge plan press at least four feet deep and only an inch or two off the floor .
A few quick photos with my phone located it precisely and I could retrieve it without damage to it or my aging knees !

I can take pictures of labels and tags and print them from my phone. It's a great way to keep up with the information.

'They are handy but also can be a PITA. Can't get away from the darn thing. Once Im fully retired, I expect I wont carry mine as much.
I put it off as long as possible, but once I resigned myself to the inevitable, I'm firmly in the "wouldn't be without one" camp.

All the reasons mentioned above plus two that literally changed my life: Bluetooth connection to my hearing aids makes actually talking on the phone possible again, and texting.

Two HUGE advantages to texting: 1) If it's not time critical, I can text someone and they can get back to me when it's convenient; 2) There's a written record of what was "said". Particularly handy if I'm doing work for someone and/or when buying/selling.

Finally, just because you HAVE one doesn't mean it has to live in your pocket. Mine sits on the shelf in the den about 90% of the time. Only carry it if I'm traveling or expecting a reply or call.

I use mine lots. Texting, pictures of labels, texting pictures of completed jobs so I can get paid, sending electronic invoices, directions, flashlight, bluetoothing music to my headphones and the list goes on. Oh and the occasional phone call.

The only thing I know about a smart phone is to never buy one.
First they come out with these newfangled "bicycles" and now folks are riding around in "horseless carriages". I suppose next they'll come out with a mechanical bird you can fly around in! I'll stick with ole Dobbin, thank you. He's never let me down.

Smart phones are one of the most useful tools ever. You don’t know what you’re missing. You should try one.
Pair one with a 20-30 year old co-worker and it's amazing. When in the a conversation if something unknown comes up I don't even have to reach for mine they have it googled within seconds!

I can't leave home without it because it's also a key fob for the car. Except for a few times when my wife was in car and I dropped
her off and I had no key. I was driving with her phone and didn't know it.
