Vermeer 5420 bailer

Question about my 5420 bailer I just bought. The bar on the tailgate hinges( that goes from side to side)do the belts go under that bar or on top of that bar because the belts rub on it when you raise the tailgate to unload bail, something doesn’t seem right. Somebody with a little more experience help me out. Thank you

I don't have a Vermeer but I think if you watch the video below and pay attention to where the belts run, it will answer your question.

If you don't have at least the Operator's manual, I suggest you get one right away, it should have the belt routing and adjustment info you will need. I would also suggest you get a service manual and the Parts manual if not available to use at a Vermeer site online.

This page on the Vermeer site looks like you can sign up and possibly get at least some of the manuals direct from them. I did not sign up to check deeper in as I don't have any Vermeer equipment.

Thank you sir! They look like they go under the bar, seems like a bad engineering, unnecessary tension on belts when tailgate is raised.

Belts go under as you have allready figured out. I have a 5410 rebel which is pretty much the same baler. I always stop the PTO when dumping a bale. Only raise gate high enough to get over the bale, which doesnt put as much pressure on the pivot pipe/belts as raising it all the way up, then start PTO again as lowering gate. I know some will say to leave belts running while dumping bale, but I dont agree. Got to be hard on belts, and splice back bending under that static pipe.

I have a Rancher model I believe, and the bales get roughed up if I leave it running while ejecting them. The manual says I can leave it running, but - no way.
