My neighbor blew the seals out of his steering cylinder and if course all the oil out if the pump resevoir. He is desperate to get it repaired. He can't find a cylinder that matches what he has. Anybody know what he has from the pic??

Standard US production 4000 power steering cylinder for 66/70, good used cylinders are getting hard to find, I sold mine after converting my 4000 to hydrostatic steering

If it helps to find a used one the 3500 and 3550 industrial Fords used that same setup.

My neighbor was just here with the cylinder in the back of his gator. He had located a used one at Farmland Tractor in Tangent, Oregon. This place is amazing with all the tractors they have

I bought one of those seal kits for my 3500. The parts were mostly garbage quality, it lasted about 2 minutes before blowing out. I went online to Hercules sealing products and ordered part U18-0.87-31BHT. It is a high quality high pressure hydraulic seal. I believe I reused the rest of my old parts since they all seemed better quality than the ones in the rebuild kit, except the rod wiper. The seal that comes in the rebuild kit seems like it is for low pressure oil shaft sealing, more like a crank seal than a hydraulic ram seal. The rebuild kit also included an external snap ring instead of an internal. It was mostly just garbage parts if I recall correctly.

Thanks BarnCat. My neighbor did get another cylinder from Farmland tractor and it worked good but leaked from the get go. So know he's in touch with Farmland trying to get another one or his money back. Either way he needs to rebuild the one he has and I'll get the pleasure of doing that if w can find the parts

My neighbor did get his money back on the leaky cylinder and i guess they don't want it back..Cool. So i get the pressure of rebuilding the original cylinder. I got it apart at the valve end ok. It just needs o rings in there. But the rod ends won't come apart.. got the or dust seal out and the internal snap ring off but can't get the seal out. Is there a trick or special tool needed to remove the ram???

You should just need a pick, seal puller, or a slide hammer and screw to get the ram seal out. The rod doesn’t come out unless you cut the welds.

Those 2 small o-rings at the control valve end are 90% of the leaks for that section, all the fluid going to and from the cylinder goes through those 2 passages

Yep the seal popped right out with a pick

I would love to know more about how you converted to hydrostatic steering. I have a 68 4000 and have a lot of ps issues.

Complete front axle assembly including bolster, steering column assembly with orbital motor, power steering pump and lines from a 3930/4630
3930 axle drops the front down about 2-3 inches
