Ford 4500 radiator

So the old radiator is toast......good grief getting the two nuts off that hold it in place is a bear! Anyone know the size of that nut? Very hard for a rank amatuer mechanic to get a wrench on it.

The bolt is a 7/16 carriage bolt.
Either a 5/8 or 11/16 wrench - don't remember which.
Unscrew the nut a couple turns then shove a screw driver between the radiator and bolster and cut them off with a sawzall. Will save you a bunch of time and cussing.

It was 11/16...and the nut was some weird type that only gives maybe 3/16 surface face to get the wrench on.....also had to cut my wrench down in order to get clearence. The nut starts to loosen, then tightens...!!@#@! Heck with this...got the cutting wheel and cut the whole thing off....did you know the rardiator appears to be all copper?? This radiator didnt have the built in oil cooler, and all the radiator part numbers all say "w/cooler"...

If it has the manual reverser then it won't have the oil cooler. That cooler is for the fluid in the toque converter auto reverser or S-O-S transmissions. Most 4500s had the auto reverser, but some had the manual reverser or the S-O-S.

Yep, I knew it wouldnt have it as I have the manual reverser. Just odd there is no radiator without the oil cooler specfied in the online doc from messicks. I suppose I could just cap those holes on the new one and forgetaboutit.

Maybe you need to get new reading glasses
I just looked this up in Messick’s, and as I stated in my other post 4500 and 5000 use the same radiators
