Ford 8N 12V EI conversion

Out of stock everywhere on walmart, no local, no delivery, nothing.

I found an interstate group 25 lead acid at costco local for $105 so I think I'll pick that up today after I remove my core battery and verify the size of the space in the tractor.

Cool, thank you I just got to Walmart and I’ll check that out. Did you have to replace one of the cables for that? It looks like you have a new positive cable or the top post on the right or the left when standing on the left side of the tractor looking at the battery?

I just saw this video about upgrades to the Ford 8N, and in the first 3 1/2 minutes, this guy describes very well why to convert from 6 V to 12 V. And he specifically states that the biggest reason is because he had a lot of trouble starting the tractor, especially in the cold, which is when I would mostly run mine to clear snow. And the guy says now his tractor starts up fine for him no problem and he also had a lot of maintenance of the points he said.

Replaced red positive cable cause old one was corroded, and dropping volts, not cause of battery post layout.

Watched the beginning of that video.
Im sure the fellow is a nice guy, and is showing how he fixed up his first 8n.
Not knowing how to spell pertronix is OK.
But leaving the knock off EI wires just laying on the exhaust manifold is a shade tree disqualified for me.( and the wire loom bracket is not bolted down)

However, I've ran 1244A since 2010, and expect another decade or two of no choke, start instantly performance.
Agree with your decision to go 12 volts, and pertronix.

That is why I'm here. What makes you think it's about building a youtube following? I didn't ask anyone to follow me on youtube. I just am showing what I'm doing and describing where I'm at on video. It's very helpful to see what's going on. I do this on all the forums where I ask for help. It's also very helpful for anyone who wants to do the same thing. I don't care about youtube followings and don't need money from something like that. I have all the money I need. I find it useful to show things on video, and it has helped me move forward with all my vehicles and I am leaving a trail for others to give back to the community. That is my motivation.

I wish more people would take a short video of their issue and how they solved it. I often read forum posts and can't make out what the person is talking about, and a video is worth a thousand words in my opinion. And so easy to do now.

And it's the language of the younger generation. This knowledge of these old machines is very important and many of the young ones will not join a forum and wade thru thousands of posts and read but they will watch short videos on their phone waiting in line at Costco or the dentist.

On a 12V system 4ga are 2 ga would work just find no need to double up. You are not using a OEM battery hold down so you can cram what will fit in the hole. A 35 will go in from the side.

Do you think I need more of a hold down than that little bracket on the side at the bottom? Is that not stock?

Your call on how you nail it down I have to stand by my work or I was the last one to touch it I am also responsible for your mistakes. Because of the way I do things I never consider others may not be using hardware to nail down their battery so I hope you understand this is why my first choice was a group 25 then a 35. I use to use a 35 the top hold down does not fit as good as it does on a 25. Every manufactory nails down the battery who'da thunk'it. From now on my first question will be are you gonna haftarse it let it flop around in the mount are tie it down : ).

To keep it simple and affordable I use 3/4" to 1" thick Delrin around to make a top strap. (I picked up a bunch of Delrin from a construction site clean up I also have a bud that runs a machine shop that will give me some Delrin) A piece of hard wood would be better than nuttin. You are on yer own with the tie down bolts I keep the ones posted on the shelf and can roll my own.

I got the battery tray area cleaned up today and slid the group 35 battery in. Good fit.
I measured for hold down bolts and crossbar. I ordered hold down bolts and I plan on making my own crossbar from a metal bar I have.
