Looking at buying this model. Why shouldn’t I? What would be a better small dozer for my hunting land?

Well ya all know i am I H 99% till it comes to dozers . Yes i have been around them and run them and worked on them . But today Sorry guys ya want a decent small dozer then look at a John Deere 350 C or 450 C . or ya can also look at Case .The 450 later ones not sure on the letters on them . The only thing i can say about them is they are jerky. but the will move dirt. Now what to look for OIL leaks , Blow by , and under carriage , look how much track frame rail ya have left before the ft. idler is at the end of it , look at the drive sprockets , how loose the track chain is by grabbing ahold of it and see how much twist ya can get . Then run it and make sure it turns left and right under load . Old dozers are huge money pits . around here i saw a J D 350 C for 6800 BUT it has and issue with one of the steering clutches . And if ya have to work on it ya got to have the special gauge to set the steering clutch , The C model had oil clutches a straight 350 and B model are dry clutch and they take the service tool , that i have as i have rebuild several of them Lost of BULL work.

We brought a small dozer which we did a lot of work to get it operating. Then we found out it was too small to do some of the jobs we thought we wanted do with it. Like clearing for Christmas trees in our soil , didn’t work, as an example. Other jobs that didn’t require blade work it did fine.

They are a cute little dozer. A lot of the chassis components are the same as the IH 340 ag. tractor. Under carriage in good shape?? Gas or diesel engine? Ag. version could have either. I’ve worked on plenty of of dozer’s when working for an industrial dealer, IH, JD, Komatsu, Case, Cat. The smaller one were sometimes the worst to work on. If your not doing a lot of serious dirt pushing then it will probably serve your purpose

Make sure the undercarriage is good enough to do what you want to do. Replacement uc is non exsistant. This is actually true for most older small dozers.

Gas or diesel engine?

If he is naming it correctly it should be a diesel.

To booster, photos of the machine would be helpful particularly of the undercarriage items the tract’i’or vet talks about in his reply. What’s the price? Remember this is only a 40hp machine. How far are you from a place that would rent a bigger tracked skid steer about a 100hp. Putting the money your spending towards a couple rentals of one of those would be a better option for you in my opinion.
