Here's the diagram for 4500 radiator and associated parts. Bolt and nut sizes are shown. So the old radiator is toast......good grief getting the two nuts off that hold it in place is a bear! Anyone know the size of that nut? Very hard for a rank amatuer mechanic to get a wrench on it.
Thanks all...watched someone take it off a 4500 model that is slightly different/later..was able to use a ratchet...dont think I have clearance for that! The nut should be 5/8 wrench size
4500 uses same size radiator as 5000 model
Yep, I knew it wouldnt have it as I have the manual reverser. Just odd there is no radiator without the oil cooler specfied in the online doc from messicks. I suppose I could just cap those holes on the new one and forgetaboutit. If it has the manual reverser then it won't have the oil cooler. That cooler is for the fluid in the toque converter auto reverser or S-O-S transmissions. Most 4500s had the auto reverser, but some had the manual reverser or the S-O-S.
Does not "L/Cooler" mean it has the oil cooler?View attachment 157241
Maybe you need to get new reading glasses
I just looked this up in Messick’s, and as I stated in my other post 4500 and 5000 use the same radiators
Aha !!! dagnabbit nomenclature! in normal land we say w/o or w/"LESS" cooler
:WITH" cooler
Well before I am done with this project I am going to speak fluent Ford...Yeah, those old Ford parts diagrams use "With" and "Less"
