Anyone have experience with Vicon Disc mower CM2200 ?? Turtle is getting really hot.

Hello all, I have a Vicon disc mower model CM2200. All was running well. The tractor dogged down and then came back up. I saw a little smoke from the mower skirt. When I investigated, I found the turtle was hot and there was as some grass that was clogged under it. The grass is what was smoking. Once cleared it, I turned everything by hand, all seemed okay. I started the PTO and all seems to be okay. There is a little more "wobble" on this turtle than the others but it's not terrible.

What's your thoughts on what happened and thoughts on continuing to use it?

Sounds like the bearings went out on that spindle, on that model you should be able to remove it separately from the others.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I should be about to remove the bolts and lift it out without having to totally disassemble the cutter bar?

That's the way it is on mine, it will need to be timed with the other heads when put back in, but that's no problem.

My neighbors Kubota"Vicon" Wound up one of the turtles with wire grass as he was not running it fast enough. Started slipping the belts. We took the head off and cleaned it up, tightened the belts and he was good to go. I told him to run the pto faster especially in wire grass.

It's been a while since I last was into a Vicon mower and I don't remember which model, but I suspect they're pretty similar in this regard. The four bolts that hold the module/spindle assembly into the cutter bar case each thread into a nut (of sorts) on the inside. With the bolts removed the unit can be lifted out of the case and the "nuts" will remain in place but aren't really secured in any way. If you're not careful and paying attention any of them can fall out of place and down into the oil bath.
