We used to spray the whole house with fly spray then close it up and leave for a couple hours. If you have any chances for them to get in again not much you can do. We have been lucky here the last few years ,very few of them, but plenty blackflies.

About every 3 months I set off 3 or 4 bug bombs in house. Leave it closed up for 4 to 5 hours. Controls flys, spiders and anything else. Local grocery store sells them in the pest control area. I also have 54 martin gourds hanging up. Have probably 45 of them filled. While the martins are here we have no mosquito or fly problems. Only problem is the birds leave by end of july. By august we have a few flying pest. Not too bad.

If insecticides worry you, you could try this for outdoor use when they are bad . Keep your fine coffee grounds , dry them thoroughly and mix in some melted candle wax and the wick . Light it in areas you want to sit in , it certainly works to deter our monster sized ones . Keep one going near the most used door to stop them from following you in .

In order for my led lamp bulbs to run cooler I cut a 1" hole in the top. By morning dead mosquitos had to be emptied from them. Use at your own risk.

My sister and BIL gave me an electric bug zapper for my birthday, a year ago. Seldom see any flying insects, but do hear an occasional ZAP!!!

Ditto the zapper...have one in the sunroom and one on the patio
Both on 24/7 , by morning there is a pile on the patio and the birds have breakfast
And none in the house

Out at the shop we have a couple 5 gal buckets with stale water and these dunks. The females lay their eggs in the water and the larva die. It has lead to a great reduction in mosquitos. Of course it has been dry here so they don't have a lot of other areas to breed. One dunk lasts about a month.

My natural control of all outdoor insects. May thru early August outdoor insects do not bother us. Have 2 of these set up.

Purple martins are fascinating to watch. They are not afraid of people. I do not know where they “do their business”, but the ground stays clean under the houses. Never had one poop on me while I was mowing or working under them. They are an insect eating machine. Once you get them to nest they return every year

They are really bad in N MN now too, 2 weeks ago i got skin infection from a bite and had to get a prescription of antibiotics, because of the type of cancer I have. But I spent 6 hours on my tractor today!

I've been throwing half of one of these in a rain barrel right outside the door for a couple of years. Never have any problems.
