Current Update on Poison Hemlock investigation.

Today was the 8th day I had 2ea 5 blossom clusters planted after spraying the plants 3 or so weeks ago with Remedy and then Rodeo just because I was out spraying fence row (weeds) and decided to give them a blast too.....both active ingredients advertised as killing this weed. As I said earlier, I have a green house with all the amenities and I planted 2ea blossom clusters in a rectangular planter box, in potting soil, fertilized lightly, and kept damp daily. Today I saw no reaction on the surface. So with my engineering inquisitive mind, I carefully removed some potting soil from one of the seed pods of both clusters I planted.

The result was ZERO GROWTH/GERMINATION OF THE SEED PODS!!!!!!!! Hallelujah.......I finally got some concrete evidence for what to expect next year......looks like all the plants that overwhelmed me this year will not be around to harass me next year and the only problem might a late maturing plant or one I missed.

With all the "Dooms Day" reporting on this toxic nuisance weed, and no real evidence in real life, I am ELATED that I have a concrete answer and couldn't wait to share it with you fine folks.

The weed is really not too hard to control, but does require vigilance and a determination to be rid of it. I can proudly say there's none on my property or the 3/4 mile highway frontage that is the usual source of my troubles.

It is an obnoxious low-growing weed that takes over your lawn.

Grazon will kill Creeping Charlie and not the grass. I've sprayed it on Poison Ivy also and got a kill.

On Grazon, my first spraying session was with Grazon P+D and required my applicator's license to buy it. The P+D part wiped out a whole line of my perimeter trees having sprayed in their root zone. Was not happy.

Have sprayed p and d several years. Have never killed trees around the edge. Even tank mixed remedy to kill volunteer gum trees in the grassland. And sprayed at full rate.

I just hit them with a 3% shot of 2,4-D. Wipes them out. Unless you make your better half mad and she makes you a Hemlock salad, the stuff is pretty well harmless.

Well sir I certainly hope so. My wife of 49 years died in 2010 so I don't have to worry about any salad......can't imagine anyone eating it. They say it's in the carrot family but carrots are orange and pictures of the weeds root shows it to be white. There is a show on television about this guy that scrounges around wild areas and picks things growing to eat. Not sure I would be inclined to follow in his foot steps.....don't know that much about plants.

I have Amine handy but the www says that Glyphosate and the main ingredient in Remedy are what kills it. Remedy acts like Amine in that it leaves grass (parallel cell structure plants) alone. One things for sure.....the local farm store wanted $99 for a gallon where Amine in quarts is around $15.

Google and my personal experience tells me a 3% solution of 2,4-D will do the job.

triclopyr does a great job on creeping Charlie.

That's the main ingredient in Remedy and it works great on Poison Ivy too. That plant is/was out of control this year too.

Curious as to your conditions. Would you please share with us what you are doing and why? What are you wanting to eradicate and why were your original efforts null and void?

Mark, that amine comparison might be what killed your trees
I don’t allow any amine chems on my place, as it is too volatile, and moves to plants I don’t want injured
