My grandfather bought an AC WD new in 1950 with a wide front end. While I was employed at the local AC dealer in the 70's I came across a WD at a local farm which was a consecutive serial number. It was also wide front and in quite nice shape. The farm was selling out soon with an auction. I had no money at the time, but tried to get my father to buy it. He wasn't interested. I think that would have been neat. I would have bought it if I had the money.
At a high school reunion, probably 13 years ago, a classmate told about having two Corvettes, consecutive serial numbers.

I suppose if somebody wants two of the same make and model, having consecutive serial numbers would be cool, but the problem is finding somebody who wants them both. A neighbor has two JD As that are consecutive. One was his dad's. He bought the second one without realizing what he had at first. They're identical.

Two JD 60's down the road from me with consecutive serial numbers. The owner has had big ideas as to big money for the pair for a long time now. The one 60 has not run in decades and has been sitting out for several years now. Fairly rough condition but had an 801 hitch but I think the local JD jockey got the hitch in the last couple of years. Have not seen the running 60 for a couple of years now but might be in the one shed. He's not the original owner of either but is pretty sure both came from the same local dealer new.

I don’t think consecutive serial numbers would mean much. Unless they were the first or last two models made. That might even be sketchy.
Now if they were vintage Colt Peacemakers, Cha-Ching!

It would be kinda cool, but you'd have to find a person who wants to own 2 of the same tractor. You might sell them for a higher price individually because it would be easier to find 2 people who both want the same tractor than to find one person who wants 2. Might end up selling for less per tractor to get someone to fork out the cash for 2. But then again if someone REALLY wants 2 consecutive number tractors ya never know!

Not sure about tractors but in the gun world, consecutive serial numbered firearms usually sell for more as a pair.

Thinking about it some more- the right high profile auction would probably find money which was looking for some novelty like consecutive serial number tractors. But good luck finding the right auction at the right time and place. And the tractors better not be junk.

I have a pair of Farmall 200s with consecutive serial numbers. They came to this farm about 5 years apart, in fact I owned them for several more years before I realized they were consecutive and not just handy tractors to use. In tracing back, I found they both were purchased from the same local area, so I'm pretty sure they arrived to the dealer on the same rail car. I would hope they would bring a premium to a collector, but like Bob Bancroft said, finding the right collector is the issue.

Local couple here started dating and got married. Their dad's both had JD 630's, they checked numbers and were consecutive numbers. Lived 15 miles apart both tractors could have been bought originally from the same dealer but don't know that info.

Depends, but not necessarily. What kind of tractors are we talking about? What's your location? Obviously a lot of responses are assuming some sort of desirable tractor, and what a seller thinks is desirable, isn't always to a group of buyers. If a smaller live auction, as an auctioneer I would sell them initially as choice or both (2x the winning bid if the buyer wants both). If it has an internet component, I might separate them depending what they are but still indicate the s/n history. If an auction, you'll be looking for an auctioneer with a profile large enough to make any "consecutive serial number" sale worthwhile for both you and them, which will probably have the internet component as well. As a seller you will give up a good chunk of change in consignment fees vs. selling privately, but you'll have them gone. Like I started with and hedged throughout, it depends.

I have a pair of H and R Topper .20 guage and 30-30 barrel consecutive serial number guns, and have original boxes too. They have been fired but not much.

I don't have stories to tell but can answer the questions you asked

Assuming they are common tractors and not serial number one and two or the last and next to last consecutive numbers is a cool talking point that the rail birds like but in reality adds next to nothing.

2. Never seen a sale were the buyer was forced to buy both always individually and could actually lower the price of no TWO buyers wants both.

3."Better" is on the eyes of the beholder.
Auctions give you a definite sale date but not a definite sale price.
Private sale allows you to set the price but who knows how long it takes to sell?

Were they mine and I wanted them sold I would auction them separately. If I had some price set in my mind price them and advertise. I would definitely NOT tie them together on a sale. If there is someone intent to buy both they have that choice as do people who only want one
