1650 Hydra-Power Leak Repair

Hello all,

Lower shaft is leaking pretty well. Parts book shows an o-ring in there. Can I pull that shaft out to fix it or is it more involved than that?

Don't hold me to this as I've never done it, but it only has to slide out about a half inch to get to the o-ring, so maybe? Watch the first part of this video, relevance starts at about 9 minutes... I'd be willing to try based on this video. I don't know if there's a thrust washer that could drop down either. Edit: looks like there is a washer on the other end, so don't slide it out too much.

I think I'm gonna give that a try. It looks like there is a hole on the front for access if that thrust washer happens to fall down. Wish me luck!

Success! Was able to sneak a new o-ring on there with no further carnage. Thank you!!

I replace it on my 1550 but the rear seal was also leaking and the nut holding the sprocket was coming loose so I pulled the engine to do it all. I was told by Mr. Schweibert that it's possible by shifting the engine to the left.

My hydraulic unit is leaking so bad that it goes thru a gallon per day. Oliver 1850. To repair the pinhole in the low pressure tube, it would require lifting the cab, and removing the floor......................................... I'm an avid buyer of Trans Hydraulic Fluid

your cab has a full steel floor over the platform? which one is that?
if you can get the small center plate up, all you need is a short half inch ID rubber hose split along length with a couple of 3/4 spring clamps.

You might be right. Never considered it.

Looking at it, you might just be right. But I can't see working on that line without MONDO clearance to actually do it right. I might be totally wrong.........hasn't been the first time

BTW...................the baler is STILL a POS. Usual fight when hay season comes around. Got too much invested in it to send it down the road.

nah, that's a walk in the park.

get that center plate up--4 9/16 head bolts, clean it out well, & find the spot that is leaking.
i've only seen bottom side leaks on that line & usually in the exact same spot.
you may need to carefully pry the line up off the cover a bit for enough clearance to see the leak & get the hose under it.

use a wide pry bar; i usually put it under the part of the line that is exposed, about 5in away from the fitting in hyd housing.

you can also just cut that line under the plate, & splice with the 1/2 ID hose & clamps.

So, how do you stem a relatively high pressure leak..........although it's a pinhole leak. I don't buy the split hose method.

the line is very low pressure. it's just return from the oil cooler to res.

& split hose works perfectly as long as you put the split opposite the leak & clamps at or right next to the spot leaking.
i've done it with duct tape in a pinch in the field.
