Lawn mower (tractor) maintenance - Anybody else do this?

I hate that backup kill switch on my Cub Cadet Zero turn.. Wish I could find out where it is and disconnect it.

To heck with the deck underside, sounds like we need advice getting up.

It took some persuasion but finally convinced my wonderful wife of 62 years that it was safer for her to do it than me!!!!!!!

I examined that function on Hustler and I think it was Land Pride or something like that. H had a motor driven and LP had a "you lift" deck. Some disassembly was required in both models as you have to disconnect the drive to the deck somehow. I passed on both.....but it was a reluctant pass.

Walkers have flip up deck too.

I have a Simplicity Z-Turn, I really like it. It does not have a back have a back-up kill switch, I can imagine why it would have one.

Husqvarna TS354XD. Big lawn tractor or small garden tractor, depends on your point of view. 54" 3-blade deck.

Got the replacement blades in this afternoon and mowed 3/4 of an acre or so of grass. Green, but not wet.

Got done, hoisted it up with the mower lift and scraped most of a 5 gallon pail of clippings out from under the deck. I do it at least every other time I mow. My thinking is that wet, decomposing grass stuck to the steel deck is going to promote corrosion. Have done it for years and yes, it's a pain in the butt, but my last deck lasted 28 years and my grandson is still using that mower.

I tried hitting it with the pressure washer which worked, but created a slimy mess that was more trouble than just scraping it in the first place.

I clean all the “mow muffins” from under the deck at every blade sharpening or if I’m cutting wet,sappy grass. I neglected cleaning my Bush Hog for winter a couple years ago and have some really nice holes rusted out now.

I have a HF foot operated hydraulic operated roll around cart that would be perfect for working on mowers without having to get down on a creeper. Problem is that its not big enough for my riding mowers.

Getting down on a creeper is very important for longevity of life.

I had a Cub Cadet zero turn and it would clog bad this time of year when the grass was thick. If finally wore out so I bought a new Toro zero turn. I don’t know what the difference is but it hardly gets any buildup at all. I only have to clean it about once a year and it’s not bad at all when I do.

Both the mower had the garden hose attachment that is supposed to wash out the deck. About all it does is make everything wet.

Yes!!!!! Doing it frequently is what enables you to keep getting up from the floor without assistance.

Well, generally speaking, my farm keeps all my functions functioning. Biggest problem I have is padding that I used to have has dissipated and I need cushions, especially on tractor seats.

You guys that do regular cleaning under the deck.....................KUDOS TO YOU. This is where the rust starts. Not on the top side. You're doing well by your mower.

K'kins bought me a stadium cushion for the Oliver. It's down to the the bare metal on the seat. Nothing..........nada.........butt on steel. Gawd I Love Her.
