TW5 steering pump, gets real hot.

I have a TW5 that I replaced the steering pump as the prior one leaked so bad I couldn't get anything done for refilling the reservoir. Right after I replaced this pump I had the steering motor replaced as it was leaking as well. It steered hard at lower rpms, so we decided to replace the filter in the pump. When we went to remove the can it was stuck on there so tight we had to use a strap wrench to break it loose. Then of course the can wouldn't seel. So I put on the old can and it did seel. Now after a short round in the field the steering pump is hot and pushing oil out the vent of the pump. Any ideas why?? Thank you for any responses.

Tell me what you think about this hose route. (first picture) I put a new pump on this tractor. Put the short piece of hose on it and after driving the tractor eight miles (one mile from the farm I was going to) the hose blew right at the end of the pump pipe. So When I put a new hose on it, I just made a big loop so as to not kink the hose. (

second picture is similar) to what I had prior. In my opinion, I think the first thing I should have done was turn the can (pump) pipe down to about the 7 o'clock position so as not to kink the hose. (may need to rotate pictures??)

How hot is really hot. Check with a temp gun.

Is the hose you used rated for oil service, or just heater hose?

It would be better if you aligned the pump nipple as close to the tube as you can, tighter a bend the more heat develops.

the temp was over 200. I think alignment is the key. If it isn't aligned, it kinks the hose thus restricting flow. Next time I change the filter, I will align the can. Thanks

I set the canister to where the vent is ON TOP...

And the temp will be a minimum of 155F... so 200 is still ok for hydraulic oil. Whats the outside temps when you take your reading and how long did you run it? The larger canister is to allow more capacity to help cooling.. but newer tractors actually added a small cooler to the return line.

Pushing fluid out of the vent is usually due to an incorrectly power steering filter that is not seated or staying seated. But could also be the vent is not located at the top of the canister for the level of fluid?
