IH 450 WF Tie Rod Assembly

I need a new Tie Rod Assembly for the factory WF on my 450-D. This site sells a Tie Rod Assembly, ID=100869. Other parts sites show the same part as an IHS894. All the sites say you need to cut 1 inch off the tube to make it work on IH WFs from Super H thru 450. Has anyone purchased one of these and cut the 1 inch off? I can understand cutting 1 inch to set it for minimum width. But is this necessary if the WF is set to a larger width setting? Any help would be appreciated before I order one. Thanks. Al

I believe you cut it shorter because it will hit the cast part of the ball joint and not allow the bolt notches to line up.
Thank you for the reply. You are probably right that cutting the tube allows the notches to line up with the adjustment holes in the axle. If I can't find a good use one, guess I will find how it works. Thanks.
