What happened to pickups??

By the way...
I stopped by the Chevy dealer yesterday and asked the price of a new plain jane 2500HD, 4X4 work truck + towing package.
It would be special order - maybe take up to 3 months to get.
Would have the new 6.6L engine and TEN SPEED transmission.
$55K - Less than I expected but still WON'T HAPPEN!!

I carry a Knaack gang box in mine so I only have ~ 6' already. A 6' bed just wouldn't work.
The PU only has 98K on it but is rusting out.
Maybe I'll start looking for a rust free bed somewhere south of the salt zone.
Don't much like those plastic fender flares you can buy.
My ‘08 F350 was looking like that. Paid the body shop $1000 to repair the left side. The next year started to see bubbles on the right side, then shortly after, I climbed in the bed and my foot went through the floor. At that point I bit the bullet and bought an aluminum flatbed. Will never have rust on that. Yes, it wasn’t cheap, but much cheaper than buying a new pickup.

Same here in Mo. Nothing yet to buy.
Thanks to the clunker program, I didn't buy into....
We have fewer used vehicles for trade. GG
Cash for clunkers was a horrible program. It screwed up the used car market and took affordable used cars off of the lot. But that was in 2009. Most of the cars we destroyed under that program were from the 80s and 90s. I don't think it's affecting the late model used pickup market today. A brand new car from that era is 17 years old now.

I have a 2023 or 24 Ford F250 or 350 can't remember regular 2 door cab 8 foot box coming up for sale soon. I bought it new for a particular job we were doing and don't need it any more. The reason I bought it new was that I could not find a used one of any kind. I know you want a GM but this one is near new close to you, Sioux Falls. PM me if interested

I'm starting to search for little newer pickup.
My 2013 runs good but is showing more rust than I like
I want a Chevy/GMC 2500, 4X4, gas -STANDARD CAB 8' bed.
Have been looking at several auction sites.
They're like unicorns.
What happened to them. Have looked at a hundred or more online and found only 3 or 4 with a STANDARD CAB and 8' bed
WTH ?
Do all you guys have extended cab trucks?
I would be happy with the plainest Jane, low mile pickup -from a no rust zone.
It has me wondering what people use an extended cab, short bed 3/4 ton for.
Done whining now...
By the way, I've seen a couple in the Washington DC/MD/VA area. How much snow/salt/rust do they get there?
Photo shows a 2018 that I would be happy with.
That is normally found in work trucks only these days. You can still order a new work truck with standard cab, crank -up windows, no radio, with long bed.
This is an example search for GM 2-door pickups for sale. https://www.carmax.com/cars/chevrolet/silverado-1500/2-doors

2001 F350 4x4 4-door longbed duallie Lariat- and it's a 7.3 +100hp. Just heavy enough that it's classed a Medium truck, no catalytic converter, with 4" exhaust. Towing fool, exhaust brake, replaced the trans a year ago with a locally beefed unit with a billet, slightly lower (NOT higher) stall converter. 340K miles, uses no oil, only repairs were an alternator and a water pump. No DEF, no EGR cooler, no drama. Matches up well with either my 20' Fruehauf 4 tire deckover tilt or the 18' 8 tire deckover ramp trailers. With the exhaust brake I can go down a 6% grade with a loaded trailer, drop it into Direct and use the brake and hardly ever touch the brakes. It ain't going anywhere

Regular cab pickups are getting few and far between nowadays, unless you really look far and wide. Both of my pickups are crew cabs, 2011 Ram Mega Cab Dually with the Cummins 6.7 liter diesel and 6 speed manual trans. It came with the Laramie package. The second pickup is a 2023 Ford F150 Crew cab with the Tremor package. I really like all the space behind the front seats for whatever I need along with hauling passengers. I don't think I could go back to a single cab pickup anymore

10 speed transmission????? Back when you had a Chevy OHV "hot water" six and "3 on the tree" I felt that Overdrive Transmissions were the answer. I can't imagine listening/feeling a 10 speed go through its routine. Neighbor has a RAM with 6 speed and takes his kids to school (during the school year) around 7:30 AM. I can hear the thing going through the gears with it half a mile down the road. I have a 4 speed in my Silverado and that's just fine for me. I think I would get tired in a heartbeat having to put up with shifting all the time.....wonder what the Owner's Manual has to say about tranny servicing and all that. My Silverado manual goes out to 100k miles (with synthetic oils throughout) and no where in the manual is any mention of fluid changes other than for the engine, nor mention of replacing the Iridium spark plugs during that period. Last time I checked Iridiums are good for 100k miles.

I didn't know if I'd like it, but the longer cab is nice. Mine isn't the full four door, but it has the suicide doors on the back. Like RobCons said, plenty of inside storage. I've got jumper cables, tow strap, ratchet straps, cattle canes, receiver hitches, all kinds of stuff in there out of the weather.
Same here

10 speed automatics have been in Fords since 2017 and Chevy/GMC since early 2019. Dodge still uses an 8 speed in most pickups. The gear ratios are close so you really don't even notice the shift points that much.
Only way I know my 2024 F250 is shifting (unless I really have my foot in it...) is by looking at the dash display. Only difference I have noticed is it needs to idle a bit (30 seconds or so) after the first start up in the morning before putting it in gear.

Just received this today

New vehicle commercials dominate the advertising when I watch TV. No wonder...... I don't know how anybody can afford to buy one at today's prices with all the gadgets that designers decided the motoring public needed......and then comes the insurance bill to cover all those gadgets!!!!!!!

can afford to buy one at today's prices
But people are buying, our parking lots have plenty of new P/Us in them. We will be buying new, and will probably order it, next year.

There has always been the new market that some can afford and a used market for those that can't.

That said, the new market is becoming a higher bar for many.

Look in ranch/farm country. Both of my Chevy 3500 4x4 have regular beds but both have flat beds; one is a bale bed. A 2005 and a 2007. Both bought from individuals. In central/western Kansas. Both have been very good trucks. New water pump for one and replaced the transfer case on one. Both are basic trucks with no frills, just what was standard at the time, like auto tranny, V8 engine, AC, radio. Yes, sometimes I wish I had a crew cab.

Might be worth getting some body work done and paint job. Cheaper than getting a new truck

My 2013 Silverado is rusting there also. I plan to have the bed-sides repaired this winter. No way I'll pay $60k for a new pickup.
