Farmall H Brake Seals

I am in need of replacing seals behind the brake drum on a Farmall H I am redoing. I searched high and low for seals and someone pointed me to these new NAPA seals. I ordered them and they appear to be a MM to big to go in although I haven't pounded on them yet. I have 4 2 for each side. Am I missing something? Does that bearing race need to be removed also?

I believe what you are calling a bearing race is the outer housing of the old seal. It must be removed also. New seal should fit ok then

Bearing Race was a terrible name for the piece I am describing. I believe you are saying that thin outer metal should be removed. It had 2 seals in that silver lining piece before I removed them.

Almost looks like you can get two CR 23184 seals in that bore ? Bore and the width of the cr23184

Since you are doing 2 seals, make sure to pack that inside cavity between the two seals full of grease. Also grease the lips and where they ride on the drum.

One final note: the bolt and washer that retains the drum should have a cork gasket behind the washer. Make sure to reinstall it or cut something new to stick in. Otherwise, the oil leaks through the splines and into the brakes.

Also, if you readjust the brakes, don't necessarily go by what the operator's manual says for adjustment, because it doesn't account for linkage wear. Did an H recently and I set the right side my way, and the left side by the book, just to see if my way was better. Got 3 miles down the road, left brake was hanging up and smoking like crazy, while the right side was ice-cold. I let it cool down, then set it my way, and it's been fine ever since.
