Correct tire size for JD 50

I have to replace the tire on my 50 and currently it has 12.5 x 38 on there now. Is this the correct size for that tractor?

My 1948 B has a 11.5 x 38 . I am going to buy two new tires and there is a $150 difference between a 12.5 and 11.5 tire.

Mine has 12.4-38 on it (old # 11-38). Not sure if that's correct, but it's what was on it when I got it.

My JD 520 came with the Narrow 38" Rear rubber..........Traction was useless for our soil conditions........
Purchased a wrecked JD either a 3010?? or 3020??
Used the JD520 Taper Axel locks, installed the 30 series Rear Rubber / Rim /Cast center..............

The parts book shows 10-38 and 11-38 for the 50. The replacement for a 10-38 is an 11.2-38 (on a 10" wide rim). the 11-38 is now a 12.4 tire (on an 11" wide rim). How wide are your rims, inside bead flange to inside bead flange?

The old tire sizes used the rim width, thus the 10 and 11 38 tires in the early 50s that changed to use the tire section width.

I am not able to find any 11.5 or 12.5 rear tires. I expect the 11.2 and the 12.4 are the current replacements for them.

It looks like 11.2 or 12.4 would be acceptable as original, the choice based on your rim width.

I have 11.2 x 38 on my B and 13.6 x 38 on both my A and 50. I think the 13.6 x 38 looks really good on my 50. Your tractor do what you like but the 13.6 x 38 looks very good on both the A and the 50 and certainly don't look over sized.

I have 13.6 x 36 Field and Roads on my 520. Very happy with that size.

I'd go with an 11.2. It's the replacement size for a 10 yes, but a new one will look bigger than the 10. I put a new pair of 11.2 on my Oliver 66 a few years ago and they stand up taller than the original 10s. My Oliver 77 originally had 11s on it, which would be a 12.4. It needed a new tire a few years ago and I went with a 13.6. I wish I had gone with a 12.4 on that one. I didn't notice the oversize much until last week when I had to replace the one on the other side. I bought another 13.6 of course, same brand so they match. Now I can see that they're too big. Sitting on it with them in my peripheral vision, it looks like the hood is real narrow and slopes down a lot.

Measuring the rim width would give chas036 the best indication of the tire size that originally would have been on the rims.
