Any luck with head gasket sealant?

I've been gone for a while - I was Bud in NC years ago, then Bud in WV & now I'm Bud in Fla. Not planning to move again! My old Yanmar is showing symptoms of a head gasket leak that I need to fix but it looks like parts for something that old are really scarce. Anyone had any luck with head gasket sealant before I tear down something I can't get parts to repair?
Thanks for any info!

Is Fawteen still around?

check with southern global I don't know how old yours is but the sweet ol gal there is pretty good at coming up with parts. no good luck with sealant other to get by for a day or two. Pay very close attention to the instruction for install, I did one on a Yanmar in a JD that required grey silicone to be applied to the head gasket in a very specific pattern

PartsASAP acquired Hoye about the same time they got YT. The Hoye Yanmar discussion forum was rolled into these forums. It is down in the Manufacturer's section.

Edited to correct spelling.

I pulled them first but even choosing the "show all parts" for my tractor, they didn't have much to offer.

A head gasket sealant to use to seal the head gasket before I need to tear-down to replace the head gasket.. So, if a small coolant leak at the head gasket, use SILVER SEAL in the radiator coolant. Do as instructions tell you. Top off coolant, put in silver seal, go work the engine, get coolant up to temperature. Bring in tractor and let sit for a day. Silver seal will seek out the coolant leak and seal.. Will not work if it is a fire ring leak, if you have a compression loose! Silver seal is in a three inch small tube. It has small flakes. Put in whole tube. Available on ebay- $19.00-$20.00 a tube. Good Stuff.

Maybe in future they will have more, I believe @NormanSavesTractors has said he is working on better coverage of the small tractors.
Thanks for tagging me! Yes I am leading a push to expand our offerings to include more of the Japanese makes and models, such as Yanmar, Kubota, Mitsubishi, Shibaura. It's a big company, but I have people listening. Will take time, but Parts ASAP is committed to helping my efforts in saving tractors!

If the head and block surfaces checked and prepare correctly ,it’s not needed .Manufacturers of my engine don’t use it ,I’m not going either.
I agree but that 850 JD compact tractor specifically calls for silicone, it is also a Yanmar engine, I read the IT manual and WTF, then I called my old boss from when I worked for a JD dealer and he sent me a copy of the service manual and sure as heck it also said to apply silicone in these locations!

It reads to me like he is asking about stop-leak, block sealer, etc.; as a stop gap to fixing it, for now.

Whatever the mfg say to do I will do that procedure .
I would rather not mess with radiator sealant . Sound more going on than ,must be investigated. Like the tractor age and possible gasket corrosion separation , seeping coolent, How sealant going fix that leak.
Leak down test it . Then he’ll know where it coming from .
