Broken manifold bolt on a W30

I took the head off my W30 today and broke one of the manifold bolts. I have enough sticking out to get a pipe wrench on it. Can I just heat it with a torch and get it to come out? Anything about heating an area of the head like that create new problems? I've been luck over my years of playing with old tractors - never had a manifold bolt break off before.

I have made sure end of bolt was flat and center punched it. Then take progressively larger left hand drill bits and got them out. If the drill bit does not get it going then drill as close to threads as possible and take a punch and collapse remaining part in on itself. Patience is the key

Soaking it with a good penetrant for a week prior to attempting to remove an old bolt is best, but that's immaterial now. Spot heating cast iron is iffy at best IMO, since we know heat causes metal to expand; however when it cools it might help break the rust bond. You can still try soaking it daily with penetrant and pecking it with a hammer, hopefully the vibrations help loosen the rust bond too. Can you weld a nut onto the stud? The welding heat on the stud might be better than trying to heat the cast iron.

Rather than heating the head, heat the broken bolt. Get it as hot as you reasonably can and let it cool completely, like leave it until the next morning. Then soak it in penetrant and try your luck with the pipe wrench.

Give it a few good wacks with a hammer. Any manifold bolts I remove get a good beating with a punch and hammer before I try removing them and even once they start moving.

I use freeze spray on the bolt or stud. Cools the bolt to -50⁰ without risking damage to the cylinder head and it should come out easily. I got all the manifold studs out of my F12 that way.

I once had a Manifold stud break.........I placed a flat washer over the stud.......welded washer to stud.........then placed a nut over stud and welded nut to washer........
Next day broken stud backed out!

This type of stud extractor works well and results in fewer stud breakages than vice grips or pipe wrenches...
