8n Oil Canister Leaks

Today I changed the oil in the 52 ford 8n. I struggled getting the oil canister to stop leaking. I know there has been a lot written about this issue.

The large top round gasket provided with the new oil filter was an o ring that didn't exactly fit in the top. I also had another new filter and that large rubber gasket was too thin. I ended up reusing the flatten gasket.

The gasket under the lid center bolt was home made by the prior user and unusable. I found a cooper crush washer that appears to be working so far. I have read that the orginal washer under the bolt was a fiber washer.

Can anbody recommend a part number for a suitable center bolt washer, fiber or copper that will work.

Can anybody recommend a filter that comes with a robust ( ie flat and thick) lid gasket?

I have a box of saved saved big round canister gaskets, new or used, because you never know what will come with the filter you buy.
I have a big fat canister on my '51 Chev that used to be called a C21
now they are calling it a C4. anyway, the WIX filters I use in it now always come with the correct ring.

Go to a dealer that has your filter element in stock, open the box and see if it's the right cover gasket
If it doesn't fit, try another brand.

You could also buy a piece of rubber impregnated cork and make one, tightening only as much as you need to.
That stuff makes good fuel sediment bowl gaskets too.
If you reuse the flattened one you have, you could clean it up with lacquer thinner use Permatex #2 sparingly on both sides of it.

You could also cut a bolt head gasket out of the heaviest gasket paper, using a flat snug to the bolt washer on the top side.
Oftentimes a lock washer makes for the perfect fit; if so, put the lock washer in a vise with the opening in the washer horizontal and just above the vise jaws
then grab the top half of the washer with vise grips and bend it until the washer is perfectly flat.

Bit of a pain that I have to remove a floor plate to change my van filter in the photo.
