ca Allis 1st and fourth gear

My brother gifted me a Ca Allis that’s a working restoration. It’s been sitting in a barn a few years. The starter is out so I had my wife pull start it. Runs great but I doesn’t want to go in to first and jumps out of fourth every thing else takes gear and holds gear well. Haven’t messed with a ca since I was a kid though

The shift lever doesn't stroke fully into 1st gear ?? and it does fully stroke into 4th gear but jumps out on it's own ?? On a coast or a pull?? Makes me wonder what's going on because they are both on the same shift rail using the same shifting fork and rail detent ball to keep it in gear. I'm sure I could diagnose it by "feel" if I had the tractor, but you may have to pull the shift cover to inspect for shift dog damage (4th gear) and I don't know what for 1st gear. Strange for sure.
