Speed change shifter cam

I split the tractor to replace transmission input shaft. The speed change shifter cam went beyond park. There is a pawl? that seems to pivot on the cam that will not allow the speed change shifter to re-enter the cam. It is not shown on any parts diagrams or mentioned in the tech manual. Am I not seeing things right? Please assist. Thank you.
 
Sorry, thought I was laying down hay today. This was unexpected. 1962 4010. I read online that you push the spring forward and move the shift fork bushing back into the cam slot. This is not that case. I spent 6 hours trying to figure it out. If it came out, it should go back in? The issue is not a spring. It is a pawl or an arm that is 1/8" wide. It is curved so it slightly wraps around the fork bushing. When the cam is lowered down on it, it is an 1/8" longer than the cam slot. It is long enough that when the cam is raised all the way up and the fork pushed as forward as it will go, The pawl is to long to be forced to the rear passed the bushing. There is no spring action to it, when the cam is raised up the pawl stays resting against the bushing. It definitely pivots from the cam.

Questions:
What purpose would this pawl serve? With the bushing in the cam slot it would just hang there. Is it just to let you know the fork bushing is out of the cam slot?

Can the gears on the other two shafts be rotated enough to allow the front fork to be slid forward? The bottom of the cam slot looks wide enough to slid the fork bushing in past the pawl. Being in park that hasn't proven possible.

I tried to take pictures, but the location makes it impossible.

I broke the tractor twice, once for the clutch assembly and once for the transmission input shaft. Like to avoid doing it again. If the pawl serves no real purpose, what if I could figure out a way to alter it enough to get the bushing back in the slot; cut, bend or otherwise destroy it?

My tech manual SM-2042 does not address this issue, but then it states the transmission has to be unbolted from the side rails, which is not true. Any thoughts, advice or questions would be appreciated. Thank you.
 
You could remove the detent then remove the nut holding the cam to the shaft too move it around. My guess is that the cam maybe broke and that is how it got out of place.
 
What you are describing is the spring for Park. It is held in place with a roll pin through the cam. Park locks the bottom shaft in two gears at the same time. The spring pushes the shift fork into gear when the teeth on the collar line up but if it is tooth on tooth, the spring will flex until the tractor rolls enough for the teeth to line up. It is a tough spring that you can't flex much by hand. I use a pry bar to help get the cam back in place.

I have read that you push the spring forward. The spring pivots from the back side of the cam and runs towards the front. Is the spring pushed towards the left side of the tractor, which would be forward from the working position. I have already bent the spring a little attempting that. I am not sure what pushing it forward means. Could you give me a little more guidance?

I guess the question is the position of the spring when it is in operating condition. I originally thought it should be below the fork bushing. Now I am not sure. Without knowing I do not know how to proceed.
