John DFeere H three way valve AB1545R

I can't find the three -way valve AB 1545R for my 1940 John Deere H--I have two questions:
1. Steiner has a three-way valve JDS2805R --can this be modified to fit the AA499R filter? or,
2. Can I just go straight from the AB499R fuel filter to the carburetor and not use the small tank?

I go straight from my sediment bowl housing to the carb on my 41 H.
Bought a generic sediment bowl and it works well.

go straight to the carb from the main tank. U may have to make up a new gas line cause those sweated fittings re hard to find as are the threaded fittings, but U can do it.

The AB1545R three-way valve has a half-round operating shaft to mate and overlap with the half-round operating rod H483R. They were coupled with the H484R sleeve and one cotter pin. Deere then changed to the AB2805R valve which has a fully-round operating shaft. This required a different operating rod H796R which butted up against the end of the AB2805R shaft and a different coupler with two cotter pins. Steiner’s three-way valve appears to be a duplicate of Deere’s AB2805R. If so, you could use Steiner’s valve but you would have to find an H796R operating rod and an H797R coupler to make everything fit and work.

Deere did make a special fitting that permits eliminating the three-way valve. It is B2526R and adapts the ¼” MPT outlet of the AA499R Fuel Filter to your carburetor fuel line nut which has ½-24 threads. Unfortunately, that fitting is hard to find…

It might be easier to just remove the valve and go right from the sediment bowl to the carb as some have said. That same 3 way valve was used on my 40B. I found replacements twice on eBay but had issues with the shafts breaking on them after awhile so I went to a tractor salvage yard an updated it with parts from a never model B that used the solid shaft. You could probably get a newer style valve then either find a shorter rod or cut your old one and drill a hole in it for the cotter pin and linkage. Tom in Mn.

Thanks for all the great comments, I really appreciate the help! I am going to try to fit a John deere 50 fuel control rod a friend has and try to make a coupling to fit an AB2805R I will get from Steiner. I will probably have to shorten the control rod, but I am going to try.
If this doesn't work I will go from the fuel filter directly to the carburetor as several have suggested and forget about the small tank.

Otis, I think I have a 3 way valve out in my shop. I'm in a wheel chair but the next time my grandson omes over I will have him look and see. Probably tomorrow. I also have a hydraulic unit for an H if you're interested. RW.

If you want your tractor to be original, three-way-valve. If not, and not using the little gas tank, use a sediment bowl and shut-off on the big tank and a new line to the carburetor. Information on the hydraulic unit, power lift, it has a pump, control valve and other valves with a reservoir in one self contained unit. It is driven off the governor housing by special shaft and mount. Comes with hose and lift cylinder. Need to read up how to install, run and use? If you get, make sure you get everything with it to make it work?

Otis The hydraulic pump works off the governor shaft. The ap on the governor by the flywheel gets replaced by one that has a hole in it to allow for the pump shaft to connect to the governor. didn't see grandson over the weekend. sorry. I'm sure the valve is on the shelf in the shop. Gonna try to get out there today. If I do I'll look for it I arestored a 43 H a few years ago and bored it .090 over so I also have a good set of standard size pistons with new Hasting rings on them and some other Misc parts available. The H is a fun little tractor to work on. Happy wrenching. RW.

Rusty Wheel---Thanks for your reply. I hope you are right about the valve being there and are able to find it. I really would like to have it original if possible. I also will need the control rod H483R if you happen to have one. I do have a JD 50 control rod and could probably make it fit if I had to, but, once again, I would have it all original. Otis

My H has the three-way valve but the shaft controlling the valve is broken off. I use the upper shut-off as a valve now.
Someday I'll get rid of the three-way valve and do a more modern setup. Skip the small tank, feed sediment bowl direct from the large tank, then into the carb.

RW--Thanks for the update. I will wait and not try to hook up any other way and hope that you have the correct valve!! I am a ways off from hooking up the carb and valve so this is not causing me any delays. I am just now finishing the brakes on both sides and that is a real chore as this is the first time I have tried to do it. I also have a lot of painting ahead of me.
I hope the doctor visits are paying off. I just had Mohs surgery on my nose near my eye and that is a real pain---it is great getting old!!!

My H is serial number 12,353 so this valve, even if it would fit, would not be original and I hope I can find the correct valve. I have one lead that looks promising so I will see how that pans out. Thanks for your response.
