Farmall 560 gas Paint color

I'm getting ready to paint a 560. I've been told to use #50 red. Parts man told me he does not carry #50 so it must be glossy red. Any thoughts appreciated.

It is my understanding that the #50 red is for "old" equipment, pre WW2. The war era equipment had paint formula changes that weren't exactly consistent, but post war - 1981 is the 2150 red. A 560 ('58-'63) is certainly a 2150 red with "935" white trim.

IH "Gloss red" is for tractors newer than 1981.

Please take no offense. But what do all these numbers mean? I am not a a paint whiz and am a little confused.

If you go to your local IH dealer, ask for IronGard 2150 red and 935 white. Or google IH(color#). The IronGard paint they stock is well above average quality modified Alkyd enamel for about $70/gal (but still not automotive quality at $200+ per gallon). If you are working outside and use a good respirator, you can use a hardener. If working inside and/or without a really good respirator outside, don't use a hardener - it's really bad for your health.

Avoid Majic paints (TSC). I've used some, and they're ok for a mailbox, but not farm equipment.

The other numbers given by Dan N are "Ditzler" (PPG), or Martin Senour numbers - automotive enamels. If your budget is no problem, and if you've applied automotive paints before, go for it. If not, stick with the IronGard. It'll look good, hold up pretty well, can be more forgiving in application, and mistakes won't cost as much as auto paint. Get a run? wipe it and start over.

But I am getting ready to paint a 1961 Farmall 560 Gas - went to the Case dealer ship told them what I wanted and the salesman went and got the paint, IH 2150 Red, he said the other paint a more glossy red was for newer tractors. So I didn't look real close at the paint can (yes I know I should have), Looking at the can below the IH 2150 Red it states it is for "Models: 1969 - 1981" so I am assuming they have changed the label, I guess it is close enough or should take it back and order the below....?

Looking at the can below the IH 2150 Red it states it is for "Models: 1969 - 1981" so I am assuming they have changed the label, I guess it is close enough or should take it back and order the below....?
