MF165 Clutch Adjustment with FEL

I have a MF165 with a MF235 loader. How much of the loader do I need to take apart to get at the access plate? The cross member is right below the plate. Do I need to provide some jacks to support the loader?

The cross member has to come off. is the loader supported other than the crossmember?

This is a case where a few pictures would help speed things up. It is hard to remember/research every configuration of mounting on different tractors. You can see it we can't.

Do these help a little.

They help some. Without seeing the full underside in your pictures and looking at the parts book, it looks like you can support (jack) the front end of the two side rails, that attach to the rear axle, to take the weight off the crossmember then drop the cross member down. I will qualify that by saying it appear there has been some "repair" work done to the mounting which may or may not affect how easy removal of the cross member goes.

You can see here that it is also attached at the rear axle.

Yes, that is as I posted: "it looks like you can support (jack) the front end of the two side rails, that attach to the rear axle, to take the weight off the crossmember then drop the cross member down".

My question was really wondering if anything, non-OEM had been done where the cross member attaches to the underside of the clutch housing. Your pictures show at least one piece bolted on to the cross member that does not appear to be OEM.

Put jacks under the end of those rails ahead of the mast frames, leaving the rear of the rails attached to the rear axle. Jack the fronts to just take the weight off of the crossmember, then remove it.

Thanks. The weld repair was limited to the vertical post mount. You can see in image 0039 that on the left side there is only one cross member that goes right across. My first thought was if the loads would be carried by the diagonal cross supports to the engine block. But, better safe than sorry...
I have grinding issues with the PTO so I will tackle that next.

The diagonal would carry some of the load, however the crewmember also carries load. Best to be sure the load is off it than to find out how much load is on it when you are lying under it and pull that last bolt from the crossmember.

Well, I got the crossmember down. That was a bit of work for a one-man-job. Someone spent some time beefing this thing up a little. The crossmember has two pieces of 1/2" steel welded for support.

The non-factory welding shown in your pictures says the loader was "well" used, so add-ons to the cross member is not surprising.

Did you get the clutch adjusted?

I adjusted the clutch today. The bolts were loose and way off. At least 200 thou. for each of them. I could only adjust to about 120 before the wrench would slip off the heads. But the clutch works great now. No more grinding.
