Pipe wrench question

In my world, those wrenches are called "automobile wrenches", or more commonly "auto wrenches". A "monkey wrench is similar but has a hammer head on the opposite side of the fixed jaw.

Dad had one about 2 feet long we called a Trimo. I believe that was the manufacturer's name. It was very handy.

I have acquired several Trimo wrenches of different sizes over the years.
They are a step up from the older wooden handled adjustable wrenches which are the ones I've always known as "monkey" wrenches.
I don't use my Trimos as wrenches but I do use the biggest one for bending metal as it is quite rugged and has a good adjusting wheel very similar to the top of the line Rigid wrenches.
I also have a few Rigid adjustable wrenches which work nice on hex pipe fittings and do not "scar" them up like a regular pipe wrench.

I have never seen a monkey using one.

Maybe you had to "monkey " around with that little knob to adjust size.
