2950 trans clutch slipping

Have JD2950 4x4. Noticed about a month ago didn't want to pull on a hill on road high range in "rabbit" gear. Now cutting hay when hot did not want to pull a fairly steep incline in low range.
Thinking clutch or transmission slipping. How bad & cost estimate.
Any help appreciated.

Mostly likely the clutch. For a quality job, you'll need a clutch disc, a pilot and throw-out bearing, resurface the flywheel and inspect and adjust the pressure plate. Can't say how long the repair would take but if it has a cab it must be removed. Dealer shops are now getting $175/hour +/-.

I'm fairly confident without having access to a 2950 tech manual to confirm that a 2950 tractor with a cab can be split between engine & clutch housing without the need to remove the cab. Before splitting tractor I'll suggest to take & record hyd pressures in both high & low speeds of hyd hi-lo

My son &I have a 2950 and it started losing power in the road gear. Mowing hay later and started losing power again. To my surprise it was the fuel filter!

hello,, you need to try both hi & lo range on the hi-lo,, assuming you have that option,, if you are still slipping in both hi & lo,, then most likely the clutch in the flywheel is slipping.. you can perform that job without removing the cab.. however IF you are only slipping in hi only or in lo, only you are talking having to remove the cab to split at the trans. to repair the wet clutches in the hi-lo.. also check the hi-lo pressures before you split..

By the description presented my bet is the engine clutch would be the problem. However, having worked on a few of those transmissions (PTO and/or hi/lo clutches) I've never pulled a cab off. Maybe because I've never had a way to lift it?

Thanks all. Confirmed what I was thinking. No cab on tractor so will make repair easier.
