started my 1969 jd 400 tlb up today brakes went to floor bled them and same thing pluged both lines going out and same thing took off brake valve cleaned and replaced both check valves put back on had to fabricate mounting gasket cant buy one any where started tractor and it filled with oil still no brake presure so with engine off took off fill cap and evrytime i pushed pedals down fluid went back into reverser valve dont know what to do

Sounds as if one or more check valves in brake valve housing has failed. Common check valve to give problems is part # AT184434. Which brake valve mounting gasket in photo below do you need?

i replaced both check valves in brake valve put back on tractor pluged both lines coming out of brake valve filled with oil push down both pedals still no preasure but when i take fill cap off valve i see when i push down pedals oil goes back into reverser valve everytime i push pedals until resevour is empty but no pedal presure

has nothing to do with brakes on rear axle i cap the lines coming out of thebrake valve itself and evry time i push brake pedals fluid goes back into the reverser valve and no brake pedal presure i take filler cap off and watch the fluid go away evry time i pump the pedals why would fluid be pumped back to reverser and not build up presure on outgoing brake lines thank you for helping me i just cant figure this one out

I meant to hit reply, not like. oops. Anyway, can the check valves be installed backwards? Mark.

I had an issue with a JD 300 a few years back the following was the solution, I tapped and plugged the hole

Just finished getting the brakes working on a JD 400 (same as a 2020). If you remove the brake assembly off of the side of the transmission you will find a ball bearing that is used to block the hole during manufacturing of the proportioning valve. We had this ball bearing come out and it allowed the fluid to drain back into the transmission. We taped this hole 5/16-18 and inserted a set screw with loc- tite. If you have a problem with the pedel going down slowly and the level of the fluid rising in the resivour check the condition of the popet valve and make sure that it is flat on the bottom.

Sorry I overlooked you plugged off lines leading to rear brake pistons. Does fluid return to reverser control valve if both pedals are depressed simultaneously?
fluid returns to reverser valve when individual pedals are depressed and when both are depressed together
