Looking for Hyster QN-20 Parts / Service Manuals

I’m looking for the correct parts and service manuals for an early Hyster QN-20 three-wheel forklift, serial number QN69952, probably from the early 1950s.

The forklift is still usable, but I’m working through several age-related issues, especially the brakes and main lift cylinder, so I’d like to get the original factory parts information rather than continue trying to cross-reference later Hyster models.

I’m particularly looking for:

• A complete QN-20 parts book / illustrated parts catalog covering the truck itself — brakes, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, steering, transmission, hydraulics, etc.
• A QN-20 service or repair manual
• Any original Hyster service-reference material that specifically covers the QN-20
• A scanned/PDF copy would be ideal, but I’d also be interested in buying an original manual or paying reasonable copying/scanning costs.

I already know about the separate QN-20 manuals for the Monomast, Free-Lift Upright, and attachments. Those may be useful later, but right now I’m trying to locate the complete truck parts manual and service information.

I’ve seen older posts here mentioning a roughly 120-page QN-20 manual and an original screw-post-bound parts book, so I’m hoping someone may still have one tucked away.

If you have a QN-20 manual, even if you don’t want to sell it, I’d greatly appreciate photos of the cover/publication number or information about where I might obtain a copy.

I learned to drive on a Hyster QN-20! To boot, I still have the one Dad bought new in about 1957. I have some manuals somewhere. Will check and let you know how I may be able to help you.

Give this guy a call. I think he specializes in older tractors but I wouldn't put it past him to have some older ag/industrial manuals. He sells reprints.

Maybe, if he has a machine (highly doubtful) and the film isn't junk. But not worth anywhere close to $125...

This has the Wisconsin engine, so parts and manuals are available plenty there. As for the other parts, I bet they're shared with some other models, and in my repair history with some old lifts similar to this, the manufacturers often sourced their parts like master cylinders, etc. from common larger manufacturers, and the casting numbers have been enough to find generic parts, with the help of the internet of course.

And JD Dave might have just the ticket above as the search history says he went through the same things.

Most photo & copy places should be able to scan that small. I could cover it easy with a macro bellows, a reverse ring & a 35mm Skoparex lens.

And heck no, it ain't worth that much!

My KD crane is mid '50s & the only thing about it that is actually Hyster is the body & stick. The rest is all off-the-shelf parts that can get crossed to stuff at NAPA, etc.

Additional engine information: I found the identification tag on the Wisconsin engine.

The engine is a Wisconsin VF4, with the following tag information:

• Engine serial number: 1762269
• Bore x stroke: 3-1/4" x 3-1/4"
• Specification number: 66597

This appears to be especially useful because another documented Hyster QN-20 has been reported with the same Wisconsin VF4 / Spec. 66597 combination. That machine was Hyster serial QN65782 with Wisconsin engine serial 1687854.

My truck is Hyster serial QN69952, so both the Hyster serial and Wisconsin engine serial are somewhat later while retaining the same engine specification number. That makes it look quite likely that this is the original, or at least the correct factory-specification, engine for the truck.

Wisconsin serial-number references also appear to place engine 1762269 in 1951 production, which makes a 1951 date for this QN-20 increasingly likely.

If anyone has a QN-20 parts or service manual that covers serial QN69952, or has serial-number/application information for the Wisconsin VF4 Spec. 66597, I would be very interested in comparing notes.

A couple of sources for manuals: Contact Jensales. They have some Hyster manuals and do a lot of ag tractors and industrial. As I remember I got a reprint of the qn-20 parts and service manual directly from Hyster. Now this was 20 years ago but it's worth a shot if you talk to the right person at Hyster.
