1940 John Deere Model A front wheels wobble.

Those JD inner wheel bearings are a PITA to replace. You can't get the seal retainers out without ruining them. Probably new felts too.
Mike I am getting ready to order parts for this project, before i take it all apart because i dont have the luxuary of driving back and forth. i am looking in my book and i see that it shows a pair of Cones and Cups. but i am having a hard time sourcing those out. Do they get destroyed when things get taken apart are they usually ok? I am not sure how much this 90 year old tractor has had done to it over the years.

Are you sure it's the wheel bearings and not the sector gear. Get the part numbers for the bearings then go to the Timken interchange catalog for the bearing numbers. Lots of places to get bearings. Once you have the numbers check with auto parts stores online. Trouble with the big chains is they're listing Timkens but you get foreign made. I've been using EZ Bering in Pa. lately for bearings and seals.

The bearings themselves are just like the front spindles on older cars. Opposed tapered roller bearings. It' the seal retainers that are the hard part. The felt seals and retainers are available from your dealer. I just repacked mine a couple of years ago. Seems the felts were on back order everywhere I looked so I went to my nearest dealer. They put the order in but could not say when the parts would get in. Turned out it was just a few weeks. The inner bearing goes in cup then cone, packed with grease. Then drive the retainers in and the felts last. Put a little oil on them. I'd suggest setting the bearings without the seals for tightness and marking the position of the nut. Then take it off and put the felts in and got to where the nut was marked.

Now to see if i can get all the parts here before labor day when i have a few days off. Thank you sir i appreicate your help.

I'd adjust the steering sector gear first. There are videos on YouYube to show you how to do that. Very easy and simple to do..
