Patching a HDPE water tank

Twenty years ago I had a hot air plastic welder, like in the picture, used it twice and it shorted out. Expensive junk. Sprung a leak in the water tank recently. Cut a strip of filler plastic using a heat gun and utility knife and used a $1 mini torch as a welder. Worked great. Does show, I was going for strength not looks. I'll let you know if it cracks.

You likely already know to use the same type material to weld the tank.

Often there's a lip or edge, you can cut a strip from, on the project your repairing.

Failure, must be contamination or something. Eventually leaks.

I have used Shoe Goo clear on a plastic barrel .Did last a few years but not forever.

I have used JB Water Weld on plastic. So far it has held for a couple of years. I also used it on a tractor radiator where a hose clamp on the hydraulic cooler rubbed through a core tube. That has been on there for about 3 years and so far not leaking.
