New Holland 3430 - exhaust doesn’t sound right

I am not familiar with tractors of this vintage, but the exhaust note doesn't sound right and it seems like it smokes more than I would expect with a low hour machine. All of my machines are downdraft exhausts so I don't hear any of this. You can't 'hear' it from behind the muffler in the driver's seat. There are no exhaust leaks anywhere. Tractor has 890 hours and was used for shredding 50 acres and moving round bales occasionally. We’re trying to evaluate the tractor and fix issues with it. It doesn’t sound right to me but I don’t know what would cause it.

Is this all normal for this tractor?

Does it clear up as rpm’s increase?
Could have a dirty injector, contaminated fuel could have caused pitting on the cam ring in the injection pump or could be a low compression issue on one cylinder

Gosh I hope it's none of those things at 895 hours!! It does become less obvious at high idle or high RPM. It's lessened, but doesn't go away.

Anything I can try prior to invasive repairs?

Unsure what engine you have in your NH, but I've got a Ford 1910 3 cyl manufactured by Shibaura. It does not sound like yours. Does your tractor seem to have full power under load? That may tell you if it's running on 2 cylinders? If so, agree low hours hopefully not mechanical but fuel-related

I don't know. It's a 3.1L. I took off the muffler to check it out as it had been cracked. I had to cut it open to reset and re-weld and the entire inside of the muffler just fell out. I guess there is a part inside that has holes in it as baffles and those were completely burned through. Seems to sound OK at slightly higher idle and high RPM so, probably just how this motor sounds.

I also have a Case IH with a Shibaura and it's a totally different animal. It's a real sweet and smooth sounding motor.
