Super 55 seat rebuild.

Trying to determine how this here torsion spring adjust the seat up and down? I am sure the seat probably has never been apart since 1955? As of right now everything seems to be froze up rusted to a point where tightening or loosening the T handle doesn't move the spring itself? No doubt this is the culprit.. As you can see the seat is off and I plan to remove the torsion spring out of it. 1 more thing the (3) rubber detents on the left hand side looking fwd. do they hold the seat in different locations? I don't think so and when they call it a torsion spring, there isn't any springs inside there is there? Looks to me farmers I need a little education on an Oliver Super 55 seat operation.. It's been a day or two since I rebuilt one, but no, no springs. The rubber is just attached to the steel discs on each side. It's supposed to be one solid unit. The new one will be. Unscrew that T handled bolt out of there and then from what I remember, it involved a lot of heat and a lot of smoke from burning rubber to get the pin out of the center of the torsion spring unit. I cn't quite see, but isn't there a small pin through the larger pivot pin on the right side? If it is, that little pin is tapered and will only drive out one way. That's a Bostrum seat, so maybe if you search Bostrum seat rebuild on You Tube or something, you'll find a video?

If that T handle is all frozen up, won't adjust, and your bushing looks like that, I would just rebuild the whole thing. Korves I believe has the kits. I think the seat was the same on the 550? I don't know. Check this out:

Still have a piece of shrapnel , 5 mm, in my left arm from a pin when I was driving it in. Nerve damage has gotten rover the years. I guess something was aligned just right.

Ordered a torsion spring and a set of bushings from korves this morning..

I think that there may be some effects of the passage of time more than farmers needing education.
