Mechanically or result wise?Ok, explain how that worked please
The build is right on a fleet line for the belt to pass between the fender and floorplate past the pto lever and over the axle.Apparently there are 2 belts, a shorter one for the Oliver and a much longer one for the JD. Both belts must be running straight rather than twisted. I remember the old timers saying a twisted belt stays on the pulleys better. What I don't understand is how the long belt get past the Oliver.
We want to try the 3 fleet lines in ‘28 at Albany.They run two F-20's on the thrash machine. I was told it is a dangerous set up. At Albany show. Gordy in MN.

Ah, I see. As I said really no experience with belting equipment. The first square bale elevator we had used a belt pulley driven reduction box and a 10 ft shaft running over to the lower elevator sprocket shaft. That was in the mid to late sixties, I was born in 62. I do remember being on the tractor, placing it, to line up the belt. We also occasionally used a a belt driven IH No 9 hammer mill, for some part of processing alfalfa seed. Seems like it came out of the combine in dried flower clusters, after those dried some time on a wagon they were run through the hammer mill running at a slow speed to break up the clusters and dislodge the seed. Then it was run through a fanning mill (seed cleaner) to separate out the seed.But an inside out belt stays on better and to the untrained eye gives the illusion of a twist.

Use to be a sawmill in the mountains here that used 2 JD A's hooked up like that.
They’re both turning/moving the same speed. I suppose there is some amount of expansion between the inner and outer arc of the belt as it wraps/bends around the pulley, but that would be internal to each belt. I would think there would be some slippage from the power being applied, between the stacked belts that would cause some friction and heat.Seems to me that those belts running like that would create friction and start smoking?
They do something similar at Hitch “Gathering of The Orange” with a C stuck in there.I think it was at Rantoul a couple shows ago there was a guy running a setup on a corn sheller with either 2 Allis Wd’s or WC’s or one of each (cant remember exactly) on the same belt. Front tractor had a special tensioner and pulley mounted on it to get the belt up over and back to the second tractor. Guess the pair was set up together back in the late 40s or early 50s to run a thrashing machine.
