radiator shutter control

This time, it is the 1938 Unstyled B... What part goes from shutter control to the pin that actually moves the shutters? I checked the JD parts, but I'm not sure what part number it is.

You have a cast lever A1786R mounted at the right rear of the gas tank. It connects to a long rod B952R going forward to the shutter control bell crank AA1522 on the top right corner. A spring on top of the shutters help open and close the shutters vanes. By moving the lever forward and back, it opens and closes the shutters.

So it would just be the spring I'm missing? There is a space from the AA1522 to the Pin at the top center of the shutters.

What I have done is go to a local Theisens or Fatm Fleet and in the Hardware section they should have an assorent of springs. Pick one that is about the same diameter (about .3 inches) and length (about 5 inches). You will have to do the final trim to length and bend a coil at each end to make a loop to hook into the shutters. Once you paint it green, No one will know the difference. Alternatively you can order a spring of those dimensions online. Or you can monitor ebay and see if an a1999r spring pops up. Seems a NOS one shows up about once a year or so.

They didn't get back to me with my order... Anyway, found this spring available at DKHardware online, and it is also shown as available at True Value Hardware.

Too short and too thick. Let me do some looking and see if I can find something. I did call my dealer yesterday and they said the A1999R spring shows unavailable and no longer made.
