Finally, something I actually NEED for my tool box.

We always called them "adjustable wrenches" or knuckle busters, as Dad called them.
Throwing arm ain't what it used to be but the cursing seems to be holding its own....haha
".....the cursing seems to be holding its own....." Not proud of it necessarily, and working alone there is no one to be offended, but for me, a little profanity after a screwup resulting in personal injury, just soothes the pain and its over and done with....no lingering misgivings.

Y'all cracking me up!

I have never been one to throw things but a few years back the wife and I were rotating chicken coops and fencing. I was using a sledgehammer to drive 6 foot T-posts in the ground. As you can imagine, hitting the top end of a T-post with a sledgehammer that was eye level wasn't easy. It was hot as Hades with the VA humidity so I'm dripping sweat and struggling to drive the posts in the ground and getting more frustrated with each post. I hurled that sledgehammer into the pasture a good 3 or 4 times. My wife suggested we just get a T-post driver, which, in my rage, was clearly not what I wanted to hear. I was adamant we didn't need to spend the money and I could do it just fine. Needless to say, she got a T-post driver the next time she was up at Tractor Supply for $30 and it was a game changer. I had to eat some crow on that one....

I still refer to wrenches by the original brand name. Crescent wrench, ViseGrips, ChannelLocks. Although the last one was also referred to as a " water pump pliers" by my father. And possibly a "Mexican Speed Wrench" by the farmer I worked for in high school. He did a stint in the Navy, so that term may have come from there. Mid 1960s.

I was in the Navy for a while. The term we used for side cutters is no longer socially acceptable.

And I won't even start with the mnemonic we used to remember the resistor color code. Or the order of clutches on a Model 28 teletype page printer...

Come on. They are called Dykes.
To understand why, look them up on the internet.

I worked one summer on the grounds crew at a golf course. You would not believe number of golf clubs would see in the trees or literally wrapped around trees. There was even the time one golfer threw his entire kit in the pool. Last time I threw a tool I broke it and that stopped that. The cussing hasn't changed....
