I don't remember the date but one summer some 20 ish miles from where the family was gathered at the in-laws lake house, my wife decided she was going to go to his concert. I said no thanks but a couple of the boys went with her. When she returned I asked her how far did you have to walk from where you parked to the center of the event.....she said "over a mile"......it was in a remote location with the only access a country 2 lane road....but it had shoulders adequate for parking. No thanks!

To keep it tractor related, last June Red Power Roundup was held in Sedalia MO at the fairgrounds.
A display there had a poster from the Ozark Music Festival held at the same place. Headliners were
America,BTO, The Eagles,Marshall Tucker Band and Joe Walsh& Barnstorm. Bob Seger was listed at the BOTTOM
of the poster . What a great lineup ! Exhibitor was at both shows...his banner said " I've been here before" .

Also tractor related. In the 70s I farmed for Hiniker’s. (Tractor cabs) In the winter they had me go up to factory and help where needed. One winter they had me drive truck delivering cabs across the country. My first stop of first load…. Sedalia MO.

Well, if you want to see Willie Nelson again he will be performing at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts located at the original Woodstock site in Mt Bethel, New York on August 29th. Gates open at 2:30 PM. Called the "Outlaw Music festival" it will feature Willie and his family band. Ringo Starr on September 05.

Is he going to be strumming the old "getar" that he wore the wood off decades ago???? Never heard of anyone strumming a getar to the extent that they wore the wood off the front......but Willie was what he is/was and no one will ever replace him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been to several and I think the 1975 one is when it came a cloudburst for about 15 minutes and filled the canvas awning over the bandstand with water, sagging down. Rain stopped and sun came back out but bands were leary of the sagging top… a deputy sheriff shot holes in the awning and it drained. Crowd cheered of course. Do you remember that or do I have wrong year?

Never been to any of Willie's picnics, would have been fun I'm sure judging by the ones I've seen on YouTube.

I've always heard or read that Paul English, Willie's drummer, was who drained the awning.

Actually Paul was the one that convinced the deputies to shoot holes in it because it was located right over his drum set so they covered them with a tarp before they shot holes in it. I was up close to the stage and could hear them talking and several of the musicians said they had guns in their vehicles and would do the shooting if the deputies wanted them too. The crowd thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing except that dirt pasture turned into mud after the rain.

Well to "rain on this Willie Parade", Texas DOT liked to follow Willie's bus.....following the smells ematating from the bus as it went down the road as I read....... Also as I read, it was pulled over numerous times. What you never knew was who was having fun and who was driving the bus????? But Tx. DOT none the less seemingly (opinion, unfounded just guessing but probably accurate) couldn't resist the opportunity to rub elbows with Willie and his band. But the smell wasn't a figment of enjoyment necessarily, it was Bio-Diesel from Carl's Corner, an establishment that entertained folks and refueled their diesel modes of transportation, on I 35E South of Waxahachie, Tx......been by there numerous times going down to Austin to see my daughter. I understand that Willie was part of (had an interest of some sort, type unknown) that "rest stop and refueling station". I guess he lived somewhere in the area. Besides all that, he was a true US patriot!!!!!!!!

Yeah Texas law enforcement liked to go for the low hanging fruit. David Crosby could tell you stories about that. May he RIP.

Been to Carls Corner many times in the 80's. First time I ever had salsa and chips was there got hooked on them. Never ran into Willie but they claim he stopped in often.

I've been to more concerts than I can remember. Not bragging, just saying. It would be easier to list the 70s & 80s rock bands I didn't see than the ones I did. One artist I haven't seen is Willie. Maybe some day, but the cost of tickets etc. these days it's doubtful.

One memorable one was Eric Clapton at DTE music center (formerly Pine Knob) east of Ann Arbor. What made this one stand out was a guy in the audience started climbing over the security fence. the guards tried to stop him but the roadies intervened. So this guy wearing one of those flat topped cowboy hats (i don't know what that style is called) goes up the side stairs to the stage and they hook him up with a guitar. Now I'm watching this out of the corner of my eye and most people didn't notice this guy. At the beginning of the next song this guy strolls out next to Eric and goes toe to toe with one of the best guitar players alive. I was flabbergasted! He played a couple tunes then left. That was Aug. 22nd 1990. Aug. 24th he played the Kalamazoo Fair Grounds I went to the fair but didn't realize you had to prepay for pavilion seats and of course they were sold out. You couldn't hear much of the show over the rest of the noise so I left. Seemed unfair at the time I mean I paid to go to the fair what the HECK. I told them they owed me my money back, they told me to pound sand. Two days later the 26th of Aug. the helicopter he was riding in clip the cables of a ski lift at Alpine Valley Music Center in Wisc.

RIP: Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I knew you were talking about Stevie Ray as soon as you said a flat top cowboy hat.

I saw The Ozark Mountain Daredevils (from Missouri) at the New Munich Ballroom. (Across from the ballroom was Dale Melin Feeder Pig market) “farm related”
OMD were “standing on a rock waiting for the seeds to grow”. (Ag related)……well….

Anyway, I saw them there.
