ZTU magneto

I have a 1945 ZTU with a mag that has been converted to only use the points and it has an external coil. I would like to return this to what was original. Question on who I can contact that would have a magneto I could purchase without a core trade in?

A G or U mag as well as Allis ones will work. FMBK4. R or G4 combine also. Z/R mag needs heavier spring on impulse to run in vertical position. Fairly common magneto.

I have one but it needs rebuilt. The magneto service I use told me the 4B4 mags have a larger case and the coil for those are no longer available.
What they do is get a coil that is available and modify the inside too hold it in the housing. He doesn’t do that anymore because of time constraints.
He is reworking an FM mag for my ZT as go mentioned and just about had to beg him to that.

Have several used/new coils and mags. Coils rarely fail unless full of moisture. 4b4 cases are all the same.

Thanks for the leads on what type of magneto might work. We had our show the first week in August and one of our club officers (surprise to me ) is an Allis fan. In talking with him he said that be has quite a few mags in his shop and I should stop over some day. So i called and stopped by, picked up a good mag that he had on the tester with good spark. Installed on ZTU by the book, verified 1,3,4,2 firing order. Hit starter and runs great. Now I need to pull governor out and go through so it works smoother. Thanks to all for advice, just wanted to close this up. Next up is getting 1939 RT going.

Springs on Allis mag may not be consistent as normally runs in horiz position.

Good to know, it seems to start ok and runs decent, I have the radiator off right now to have fixed as weeping a bit on bottom.
Can you please share what I should watch for with the springs?

Mag has heavier spring to throw out pawls. Some will work in vertical position. Not much of a spring needed in horiz as gravity does the work.
