I received a draft notice and on my birthday in 1959, after finishing high school, I went to Houston and signed up for the draft as required. That was my first stop for the day. The second stop was the USAF recruiter and I signed up spending 9 years with them. No way did I want to be slopping through swamps, living in the rain, eating out of C ration cans, and other niceties.Tomorrow March 17, I left the farm and joined the Navy, for four years of fun.
