Junior‘s Tractor Shop: Super 90 head gasket replacement: Massey Ferguson

Pull the injectors out of the head before you screw the tips up! Put each one of them in a zip lock type bag or such to keep dirt out of them.

For future projects I suggest you remove sheet metal and do the cleaning (pressure wash, etc.) before you start any disassembly.

Why pull the injectors out? What do you mean by screw the tips up?

Thanks!

The tips generally protrude below the head surface. You can ruin them if they get banged up moving the head around or setting the head down with the tips ending up bearing the weight. I believe removing the injectors is a step in the manual leading up to the head removal.

Got it. We have the engine manual and didn't see that in there but I'll look again and I'll pull them out, thanks!

Last night we got the head off. I took video with a new head cam but I didn't have it pointed correctly so nothing good on there.

We had a stud that would not come out of the water pump assembly so we used this tool and the bolt buster and it came out easily then.

I did remove the injectors, labeled them, and set them aside.

Then we fought a while trying to remove the head because those two large metal lines were in the way...power steering hydraulic lines?

We did get it off without removing them but I don't recommend it.

We are going to remove them before reinstalling.

I did a lot of searching and calls trying to find the parts I need and I'm not finding a lot of parts for this engine or they are not in stock.

This is for Super 90 with 4.300 Perkins diesel engine.

I want:

Head gasket - Kit?

Rocker cover gasket

Sealing washers for rocker cover studs in top of rocker cover

2 exhaust manifold gaskets

Water pump assy gasket

All cooling-system hoses for a Massey Ferguson Super 90 diesel with the Perkins A4.300 engine — upper radiator, lower radiator, and any water-pump/bypass hoses.

Thermostat
with gasket

Fuel injectors washers

Water temp gauge and sender

Oil filter cartridge and gasket

Yesterday's tractors does not have the head gasket in stock

Steiner has nothing for the diesel

Agkits has nothing for that diesel

All states only has bearings and rings for that diesel

Jensales and DDP - left messages for them and waiting for a return call.

Any others to try?

Thanks!

Are you using current MF part numbers in your search, or are you searching by application only?

Have you talked to a MF dealer?

Have you contacted a Perkins dealer?

headgasket- look up Olson's Gaskets. They list the super 90 Perkins head gasket on their site- says call to order. haven't tried calling them myself, but worth a shot.

I did my oil filter not too long ago, ordered the cartridge and gasket through AGCO.

Junior gave me Olson's contact info the other day, he got it from a tractor mechanic that worked on one of their tractors.

They had the whole kit and I ordered it. It has every gasket that is used in the job.

Except for the seals for the studs that pass thru the top of the rocker cover.

And thanks for the AGCO idea!
