Exhaust studs on an 8 inch Ford

Good morning. I’m wondering if anyone knows why my 8n ford needs 3 1/2 inch 7/16exhaust manifold studs. and where can I find them? (I see why they used ready Rod.) thanks

It sounds like you have an aftermarket manifold that is much thicker than the original. I have one of those manifolds but haven't installed it on an engine. When I do plan to make studs from standard bolts.

You are correct they are difficult to find. I found some form McMaster-Carr but they are spendy, $7.67 ea. McMaster 7/16 studs If you could get by with 3” in some of the positions Fastenal has them for $4 something each, problem is they only sell them in bags of 10.
