Here I have 3 of the New Idea pocket sized Brochures on manure spreaders from the Early 1960's
I see in the 10-A brochure that you could still get it with a Horse Hitch in 1961
My fathers and I alway used New Idea Spreaders. My father Like the Ground Drive ones. But I used the PTO models
I also had one of the 500 series tractor loaders on my IH 460 utility tractor

My paternal grandfather had what appears to be a 10 and a 17 spreader. The 10 had rubber front tires and steel rear wheels. I remember them sitting with the old and no longer used equipment to the south of the buildings.

Have a 19-A that I bought as a basket case from a salvage yard auction for $40. Frame was good and all the steel components were there but had to put all new wood in it. A new web chain, new tires, new plates in the slip clutch and new universal joints. I’ve probably ran 40 loads through it since and it’s been a good little spreader.

I had a guy on the milk route who still farmed with horses in the 70s. He bought a new four wheeled New Idea spreader in 72.

Here is my New Idea manure spreader. My dad bought it around 1980. It was used but in like new condition. The gentleman we bought it from had it stored in his barn and had it covered with blankets. I think he paid $125 for it. We hauled a lot of manure with it for 15 years. The cattle were sold in the mid 90's and we then converted it to a wood hauler.
